#AGGF2018 Event: Rwanda Green Growth Investments Field Visits

Background

The Africa Green Growth Forum Learning Tours will introduce participants to a range of distinct initiatives leading green growth in Rwanda. Participants will be invited to visit these locations and learn about their operations and aspirations for green growth in Rwanda and across Africa. The three featured sites provide robust opportunities for investors and communities to contribute to sustainable development and climate resilient development, and each present a different element of the green growth transition.

The tour will take place on Friday 30 November 2018, and will visit three sites in Bugesera District:

  • Enviroserve – Rwanda E-Waste Dismantling and Recycling Facility
  • Bugesera International Airport – Presentation at Golden Tulip Hotel
  • Rweru Model Green Village
  • Objectives

  • Provide first-hand experiences of Rwanda’s green growth initiatives
  • Spark dialogues about green growth climate resilient initiatives that contribute to sustainable development across the continent
  • Encourage participants to invest in green innovations in their respective countries

    Enviroserve – Rwanda E-Waste Dismantling and Recycling Facility

    Enviroserve Rwanda is dedicated to electronic waste recycling, green growth, and the circular economy. Enviroserve Rwanda operates the region’s only state-of-the-art E-waste dismantling and recycling facility. Through a partnership with the Rwanda Green Fund and the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the facility is protecting millions from the hazardous threat of electronic and electrical waste and is turning trash into treasure. Location: Bugesera Industrial Park, Eastern Province, Rwanda

    Bugesera International Airport – Presentation and Discussion at Golden Tulip Hotel

    The Bugesera International Airport is Rwanda’s largest single infrastructure investment and is being developed as a green building. It’s one of the few airports that is incorporating green initiatives that will support its daily operations. Location: Golden Tulip, Nyamata, Eastern Province, Rwanda

    Rweru Model Green Village

    Rweru Model Green Village is home to more than 400 Rwandans who were relocated from Mazane and Sharita islands in Rweru Lake. The islands were mapped as high-risk zones. With connection to electricity and clean, drinkable water, the village is comprised of a school, a health post, and a modern market and has access to Internet connection. The village was greened with support from the Rwanda Green Fund, which provided trees, rainwater harvesting, livestock and biogas. Rweru Green Village is part of the Government of Rwanda’s efforts to promote a green environment and better living conditions for its citizens. Location: Bugesera, Eastern Province, Rwanda
